About the author

Born in 1849, George Gillanders Findlay was a British Methodist biblical scholar who studied at Wesley College, Sheffield, and at London University. He spent most of his working life teaching in the theological colleges of his denomination, serving at Headingley and Richmond and contributing to the training of ministers over many years.

Findlay is best remembered for his New Testament scholarship, especially his works on Galatians, Ephesians, and Thessalonians. He also wrote on the apostle Paul more broadly, and later co-authored The History of the Wesleyan Methodist Missionary Society, a major historical work published after his death.

His writing is known for combining close reading of scripture with a practical, pastoral concern for the church. He died in 1919, leaving behind a body of work that remained widely used by readers interested in biblical interpretation and Methodist history.
