About the author

Born in Gibraltar in 1856, Sir George Brisbane Scott Douglas was a Scottish writer, poet, and editor. Reliable sources describe him as the son of Sir George Henry Scott Douglas and note that he later inherited the baronetcy, combining literary pursuits with the management of the family estate in the Scottish Borders.

He was educated at Harrow and Trinity College, Cambridge, and published widely under the name Sir George Douglas. His work included poetry, essays, and editorial projects, with titles linked to Scottish literature such as Poems of the Scottish Minor Poets, The Book of Scottish Poetry, and Scottish Fairy and Folk Tales.

Douglas died in 1935. He is remembered less as a single-book celebrity than as a steady literary figure who helped preserve and present Scottish writing for later generations.
