Born in Hammersmith on January 5, 1867, he wrote under the name G. A. Sekon and became a well-known British journalist and author on railway subjects. He is remembered above all as the founding editor of The Railway Magazine, a major early periodical for railway readers.

Alongside his editorial work, he wrote books on railway companies and locomotive development, including The Evolution of the Steam Locomotive (1803 to 1898) and histories of major British railways. His writing combined practical detail with a clear, accessible style, which helped bring railway history to a wider audience.
