About the author

Born in Leith, Scotland, on March 8, 1874, Gabriel Scott grew up in a family with strong literary and musical ties. He moved to Norway as a child and became closely associated with southern Norway, a region that shaped much of his writing and helped make him one of its best-known literary voices.

Scott was a remarkably versatile author who published poetry, novels, plays, and books for children. He is especially remembered for works such as Kilden, the Christmas story Tante Pose, and the much-loved children's book Sølvfaks som reiste ut i den vide verden. His writing is often noted for its strong sense of place, its love of nature, and its sympathy for ordinary people.

He died on July 9, 1958, in Arendal. Long after his lifetime, his books have continued to be read in Norway, especially the works that capture coastal life and the spirit of the south.
