About the author

George Woosung Wade (16 August 1858 – 15 October 1941) was a cleric, teacher, and author. He was born in China, educated at Monmouth School and Oriel College, Oxford, and was ordained in the Church of England in the mid-1880s.

After early parish work in Hampshire, he joined St David’s College, Lampeter, where he taught Latin and also lectured in Hebrew. He remained there for many years and became one of the college’s best-known scholars.

Wade wrote both religious and general works. He is especially remembered for books such as Old Testament History and New Testament History, as well as guidebooks including South Wales, Monmouthshire, Somerset, and Herefordshire.
