About the author

Born in Saint-Laurent-en-Gâtines in 1864, Gustave Moussu was a French veterinarian, physician, and professor whose work focused on animal pathology and comparative physiology. He taught at the veterinary school of Alfort and also held teaching roles in agricultural education, building a career at the crossroads of science, farming, and medicine.

He is best remembered for his studies of animal diseases and for books written to be useful in practice as well as in the classroom. Works associated with his name, including Diseases of Cattle, Sheep, Goats and Swine, helped spread veterinary knowledge to a wider audience and show how closely he connected careful observation with practical treatment.

Moussu died in 1945 in his native Saint-Laurent-en-Gâtines. Today, he is remembered as one of the French veterinary scholars of his era: a researcher, teacher, and author whose work supported both scientific progress and everyday animal care.
