Born Augustine Tuillerie in Laval, France, in 1833, she wrote under the pseudonym G. Bruno and became known for books that mixed learning with narrative adventure. She wrote especially for young readers, creating instructional and educational works that were widely used in schools.

Her best-known book, Le Tour de la France par deux enfants (1877), follows two children traveling across France and was hugely influential in classrooms for many years. The book is often remembered for helping children of the Third Republic connect geography, history, and civic identity through a story rather than a dry lesson.

She died in 1923. Today, G. Bruno is remembered as an important figure in French children's and educational literature, especially for the lasting place her work held in school culture.
