About the author

Born in Karlsruhe on September 8, 1803, Friedrich Theodor Fischer was a German architect and Baden construction official. He trained at the private state-supported building school in Karlsruhe, an institution closely linked with the architect Friedrich Weinbrenner, and went on to build a career in public service.

Fischer is remembered for his work on civic and religious buildings in the Grand Duchy of Baden. Sources about him describe him not as a novelist or literary author, but as an architect whose projects included official buildings and churches, and who later held an important role in Baden's building administration.

He died in Karlsruhe on November 14, 1867. A concise picture that emerges from the available sources is of a skilled 19th-century public architect whose work helped shape the built environment of Baden.
