About the author

Born in Karlsruhe on September 8, 1803, Friedrich Theodor Fischer was a German architect who also served as a construction official in Baden. Rather than being known mainly as a literary figure, he is remembered for his role in designing and overseeing buildings during the 1800s.

His career was tied closely to public building in the Grand Duchy of Baden. Sources connected with his encyclopedia and Wikipedia entries identify him with projects including an official building in Baden-Baden from the early 1840s and the Protestant church in Waldangelloch from 1861, showing the range of his work from civic to religious architecture.

Fischer died on November 14, 1867. Although he is not among the best-known architects of his century, his surviving buildings give a clear sense of the everyday institutions and local character of Baden in the 19th century.
