author
1849–1924
A Bremen schoolteacher with a deep interest in freshwater life, he wrote carefully observed studies of mollusks and helped document the natural history of northwestern Germany.
Born in 1849 in Groß-Mimmelage near Quakenbrück, he later worked from 1872 in Bremen-Vegesack as a Gymnasiallehrer, or secondary-school teacher. Alongside teaching, he devoted himself to studying mollusk fauna and became known for his work on the freshwater and land snails of northwestern Germany.
Reliable sources found during this search describe him as the author of several dozen scientific publications. Project Gutenberg lists him among the contributors to Die Tier- und Pflanzenwelt des Süsswassers. Zweiter Band, which fits his reputation as a careful observer of freshwater animal life.
He died in 1924. Although the available sources confirm his scientific work and regional importance, I could not verify enough portrait information from the pages I checked to confidently provide a proper author photo.
