About the author

Born in 1867 and raised at Åby säteri in Bohuslän, he grew up in the coastal environment that would shape much of his writing. He later studied in Vänersborg and Uppsala, and worked as a journalist, critic, and actor as well as an author.

He was often associated with Bohuslän so strongly that he was called a regional poet of the area, and he devoted a large part of his career to depicting its people, seafaring world, and cultural history. Alongside literary work, he also took part in preserving local heritage, which helped make him an important cultural figure beyond his books.

Nycander died in Stockholm in 1944, but his writing remains closely tied to western Sweden and its memory. He is still noted as a writer who combined storytelling with a deep affection for place, tradition, and everyday life.
