About the author

Frederick Warne & Co. was founded in London in July 1865 by bookseller and publisher Frederick Warne. The firm grew out of an earlier publishing partnership connected to George Routledge, and it soon established itself as a notable name in illustrated publishing.

During the late 19th and early 20th centuries, the company became especially well known for children’s books. Its name is closely tied to Beatrix Potter, whose tales became some of its most enduring successes, and the publisher also became known for the popular Observer’s Books series.

Over time, the business changed hands and eventually became part of Penguin. Today, Frederick Warne survives as an imprint within Penguin Random House, with its strongest public identity still linked to classic children’s publishing and the world of Peter Rabbit.
