About the author

Frederick Vining Fisher (1866–1937) was a Methodist minister who served as pastor of the First Methodist Church in Ogden, Utah. He was also known as an author, lecturer, traveler, and publicist, presenting illustrated talks about the scenic wonders of the American West.

Fisher wrote The Transformation of Job: A Tale of the High Sierras, published in 1900. During a 1916 visit to Zion Canyon, he helped give names to several of its striking formations, including Angels Landing—a name inspired by his impression that only an angel could land there.
