1844–1940
Remembered as a physician who also devoted himself to local history, he wrote in German about northern Bohemia and helped preserve the region’s past. His work blends careful observation with a strong sense of place.
Born on October 4, 1844, in Kottowitz in the Austrian Empire (now Chotovice in the Czech Republic), he became known as a German-Bohemian doctor, local historian, and topographer. Reference sources including the German Wikipedia and Deutsche Biographie identify him as a physician and researcher of regional history, especially connected with northern Bohemia.
He is associated with Böhmisch Leipa (today Česká Lípa), where he also taught at the gymnasium and was a co-founder of the Nordböhmischer Exkursions-Klub, a society devoted to exploring and documenting the region. His writing focused on local history and landscape, which is why he appears in library and biographical records not only as a doctor but also as a writer and historian.
He died in Vienna on February 23, 1940. A suitable confirmed portrait image could not be verified from the sources checked here, so no profile image is included.
