Born in Saarijärvi on September 23, 1881, he was originally named Frans Johannes Rams and adopted the surname Talaskivi in 1906. He worked as a journalist and also built a literary career as a playwright and translator.

Talaskivi is best known for Finnish plays and light comedies, including works that have since been preserved in digital archives such as Project Gutenberg. His writing is tied to the world of the early 1900s, when popular theater and print culture were closely connected.
