About the author

Franklyn Everett Fitch (1882–1966) was an author and fellow naturalist whose work focused on the hidden life of plants and trees. He collaborated with Royal Dixon on The Human Side of Trees: Wonders of the Tree World (1917) and Personality of Plants (1923), books that encouraged readers to look beyond conventional botany and consider the intelligence, character, and interconnectedness of plant life.

Fitch’s writing occupies an unusual place between popular science and reflective nature literature. In Personality of Plants, he and Dixon explored plant growth, migration, intelligence, mythology, art, music, and spirituality, presenting the natural world as a dynamic community with its own forms of life and purpose.
