About the author

Born in 1889, Frank H. Cheley devoted much of his life to working with young people. Sources describe him as an outdoor enthusiast, educator, and Colorado Springs native, and his writing grew out of that hands-on experience with youth programs and camp life.

He worked with the YMCA during his high school and college years in Colorado, and later served as director of YMCA Camp Eberhart in Michigan. His books include adventure stories as well as practical and inspirational works on camping, fatherhood, and leadership, showing how strongly he believed outdoor life could help shape character.

In 1921, he founded what became Cheley Colorado Camps in the Rockies. That camp legacy, along with his many books, helped preserve his simple but lasting message: young people grow through responsibility, friendship, and time spent in the natural world.
