About the author

Frank Finney (1874–1957) was an American advertising executive, copywriter, performer, and producer. He co-founded the New York advertising agency Street & Finney with writer Julian Street and later became known for direct, memorable copy, including campaigns for Carter’s Little Liver Pills. A 1936 profile in The New Yorker dubbed him the “Einstein of advertising.”

Finney also had roots in show business. In 1913, The Billboard described him as the principal comedian, author, and producer of The Trocaderos, praising him as one of the business’s most versatile writers. He continued to be active in advertising for more than four decades and was recognized in 1943 for completing 41 years at the head of his own business.

With Julian Street, Finney co-wrote several illustrated books and promotional works, including A Bride and a Bridle and The Treasure on the Beach, a lighthearted adventure story first published in 1906. He died at his home in Summit, New Jersey, on September 20, 1957, at the age of 84.
