About the author

Born in Saint-Clet in 1887, François Ménez was a French writer and journalist with strong roots in Brittany. Sources describe him as the son of a schoolteacher; he trained as a teacher himself, studied at the École normale in Saint-Brieuc, and later taught literature before working in Rennes.

He published poetry early, then went on to write novels and prose centered on Breton life and landscape. Reference sources such as the Bibliothèque nationale de France and Breton literary databases identify him as both a writer and a journalist, and his bibliography is closely tied to Brittany, including work that explores Cornouaille and other regional settings.

Ménez died in Rennes in 1945. While he is not widely known outside Breton literary circles, his books remain of interest for readers drawn to regional French writing, local history, and lyrical evocations of place.
