About the author

Born in Wernigerode on March 19, 1798, Ferdinand Friederich studied theology in Göttingen and Berlin before serving as an evangelical pastor. He worked first in Ilsenburg and, from 1835, at St. Johannis Church in Wernigerode.

Alongside his church work, he wrote books shaped by faith, education, and regional history. Sources describe him as an author who also traveled for study in the Netherlands, Hungary, and Transylvania, experiences that likely widened the horizons of his writing.

Friederich is especially associated with Der Gang nach der Himmelpforte, a work connected with the history of Wernigerode and written for younger readers. He died in Gnadau on November 15, 1873.
