A widely read Baptist pastor and devotional writer, he paired vivid Bible teaching with practical concern for ordinary people. His books, sermons, and evangelistic work made him a familiar voice in English-speaking Christian life well beyond his own time.

by F. B. (Frederick Brotherton) Meyer
Born in London in 1847, Frederick Brotherton Meyer became one of the best-known Baptist ministers of his era. He studied at Brighton College and the University of London, then trained for ministry at Regent’s Park College before serving a series of pastorates in Liverpool, York, Leicester, and London.
Meyer was closely connected with the evangelical revival movements of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. He worked alongside figures such as D. L. Moody and became known as a gifted preacher, conference speaker, and organizer, especially in work that joined personal faith with mission and social concern.
He also wrote extensively, producing devotional and biblical books that stayed in print for many years. Readers still turn to him for warm, direct reflections on Scripture, marked by an earnest call to holiness, prayer, and everyday Christian service.
