About the author

Everett Franklin Phillips (November 14, 1878 – August 21, 1951), often listed as E. F. Phillips, was an American apiculturist best known for his work on honey bees and beekeeping. He served with the U.S. Department of Agriculture and later became an influential professor of apiculture at Cornell University.

Phillips wrote clearly for readers who wanted reliable, usable information about bees, and his books and bulletins helped bring scientific methods into everyday beekeeping. He is especially remembered for collecting a major body of English-language bee literature, which became part of Cornell's beekeeping library.

Though he worked in a specialized field, his legacy reaches beyond agriculture: he helped turn beekeeping into a subject that could be studied seriously, taught well, and shared widely. For listeners interested in nature, farming, or the history of science, his work offers a window into an era when careful observation and practical knowledge went hand in hand.
