An early 20th-century Italian writer and dramatist, he packed adventure, fantasy, and theatrical flair into a life that ended far too soon. Best known for imaginative stage works such as Orione and Glauco, he remains a distinctive voice of modern Italian literature.

Born in Pesaro on February 19, 1882, Ercole Luigi Morselli grew up partly in Florence after his family moved there in the 1890s. He began studies in both medicine and literature but did not complete either course, and instead developed a literary life shaped by wide reading, journalism, and travel.
Morselli became known as a writer and dramatist with a taste for myth, fantasy, and strong visual storytelling. His best-known works include the plays Orione and Glauco, and his writing helped give early 20th-century Italian theatre a more imaginative, lyrical tone.
He died in Rome on March 16, 1921, at just 39 years old. Although his life was brief, his plays and prose secured him a lasting place in Italian literary history.
