About the author

Emma Peachey was a British artist, author, and teacher best known for her work in wax flower modelling. She is associated with the revival of the craft in Victorian Britain, where lifelike wax flowers were admired for both their beauty and their technical skill.

She gained royal patronage and was appointed "Artiste in Wax Flowers" to Queen Victoria in 1839. Her best-known book, The Royal Guide to Wax Flower Modelling (1851), offered practical instruction as well as a sense of the artistic and cultural value of the craft, helping bring her work to a wider audience.

Although she is remembered today mainly through that book and her reputation as an instructor, her career reflects a fascinating corner of Victorian decorative art, where teaching, authorship, and craftsmanship came together in one distinctive practice.
