A Finnish novelist and librarian, Elsa Soini wrote boldly about modern women who challenged traditional roles. Her work ranged from experimental novels to a celebrated biographical portrait of the young Aleksis Kivi, as well as popular radio and film scripts.

About the author
Elsa Soini (1893–1952) was a Finnish librarian, novelist, and screenwriter. Her fiction often focused on the modern, rebellious woman and questioned the gender divisions of her time.
She experimented with the form of the novel in works such as Jumalten ja ihmisten suosikit (1926) and Uni (1930). Her best-known literary achievement was a biographical novel about the young Aleksis Kivi.
During the 1930s and 1940s, Soini also collaborated with radio speaker Serp, the pen name of Seere Salminen, writing scripts for the popular Suomisen perhe radio and film series.
