by Ellen McCaffery
Born in Hereford, England, in 1886, Ellen Conroy McCaffery later became an English-born American writer, teacher, and astrologer. Reliable sources agree that she wrote extensively on astrology and related symbolic subjects, and that she was living in New York during the 1940s.
Her work shows a strong interest in making complex mystical and symbolic systems easier to follow. Among the books connected with her are The Symbolism of Colour, Astrology: Its History and Influence in the Western World, Graphic Astrology: The Astrological Home Study Course, and An Astrological Key to Biblical Symbolism.
McCaffery died in 1953. Although not much detailed biographical information seems to survive, her books have continued to circulate through libraries, reprints, and digital archives, and they still attract readers interested in astrology, symbolism, and esoteric thought.
