About the author

Born in 1856, Elizabeth Amelia Sharp was a Scottish writer whose work included biography, memoir, and literary editing. She is especially associated with the legacy of her husband, the writer William Sharp, and helped shape how later readers understood both his life and his work.

She wrote William Sharp (Fiona Macleod): A Memoir, an important account of a complicated literary figure who also wrote under the name Fiona Macleod. Through that work, and through her broader literary activity, she became part of the network of writers and editors who kept fin-de-siècle literature alive for new audiences.

Elizabeth Sharp died in 1932. Though she is less widely known today than some of the authors around her, her writing remains valuable for readers interested in literary biography, the Scottish literary world, and the personal histories behind famous books.
