Born in Tampere in 1903, Elina Vaara was the pen name of Kerttu Elin Vehmas, née Sirén. She became known in Finland as a poet, fairy-tale writer, and translator, and her long writing life carried her from the 1920s into the postwar decades.
Sources found during this search describe her as a prolific member of the Tulenkantajat circle and note that her debut collection was Kallio ja meri (1924). Reference works also describe the broad arc of her poetry, from youthful, songlike lyricism toward richer romantic and nationally inflected themes over the course of her career.
Vaara died in Helsinki in 1980. A verified image is available from her Finnish Wikipedia page, though it appears to be a shared photograph with her husband rather than a solo portrait.
