Born in Gálszécs in 1812, he became a philosopher, educator, and writer whose work was closely tied to teaching and public learning. Hungarian reference sources describe him as a doctor of philosophy, a pedagogue, and a corresponding member of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences.
Peregriny Elek worked as a tutor in aristocratic households and is noted for having helped educate the future statesman Gyula Andrássy. Biographical sources also record that he later served on the royal book review committee and was appointed to a university post around the time of the 1848 Hungarian government.
As an author, he wrote on education and history, including works intended for young readers. One of the best-known titles available today is Magyarország története. Az ifjuság használatára ("History of Hungary for the Use of Youth"), which reflects his interest in making knowledge accessible and useful.
