Born in 1847 in Bishop's Cleeve, Eleanor Catharine Price became a British novelist, literary critic, and biographer. She also built a strong career in periodical writing, contributing reviews and other work to publications including The Spectator, The Monthly Packet, the Manchester Guardian, and London Society.
Price was remarkably prolific. Starting with One Only in 1874, she went on to publish almost two dozen novels, as well as biographies and books for younger readers. Her fiction included both society-centered stories and historical novels, and titles such as Angelot, John's Lily, and Cardinal de Richelieu have remained visible through public-domain and reprint editions.
