Born in 1847 in Bishop's Cleeve, Eleanor Catharine Price became a professional writer at a young age. In addition to publishing nearly two dozen novels, she contributed reviews and other writing to periodicals including The Spectator, The Monthly Packet, the Manchester Guardian, and London Society.
Her books ranged widely. She wrote contemporary fiction as well as historical novels and historical or biographical works, including titles such as Angelot, Cardinal de Richelieu, and The Adventures of King Arthur. That mix of storytelling and historical interest helped give her work a broad reach.
Price died on May 31, 1933. Although she is not as widely known now as some of her contemporaries, her books remain accessible through public-domain collections, which has helped keep her writing in circulation for modern readers.
