About the author

Born in Salt Lake City on June 11, 1860, Edwin Francis Parry became known as a typesetter, printer, writer, and musician. Sources about his life describe him as a gifted singer and keyboard player who also wrote lyrics and composed songs and hymns.

Parry is especially remembered for writing Sketches of Missionary Life, a book drawn from Latter-day Saint missionary experience in the late 1800s. He also served in the European Mission, and church history sources connect him with missionary work in Britain during that period.

Alongside his writing, Parry contributed to the musical life of his church, with hymns and other works that continued to be recognized long after they were written. He died in Salt Lake City on September 16, 1935.
