About the author

Born in 1833, Edward Livingston Campbell is best known as an American Civil War officer who rose to the rank of brevet brigadier general. He commanded the 15th New Jersey Infantry Regiment and later the 4th New Jersey Infantry, serving in major campaigns in the eastern theater of the war.

Beyond his military career, he is remembered as the author of Historical Sketch of the Fifteenth Regiment, New Jersey Volunteers, First Brigade, First Division, Sixth Corps. That book gives readers a close, personal view of the regiment's service and has helped keep its story alive for later generations.

Campbell died in 1913. For audiobook listeners and history readers, his value lies in that mix of lived experience and careful remembrance: he was not only part of the events he described, but also one of the people who wrote them down.
