Born in Cambridge in 1950, Edward Bennett is a British film and television director. He was educated at Eton College, and his feature film Ascendancy won the Golden Bear at the 33rd Berlin International Film Festival.

That success led to further recognition, including serving on the jury at the following Berlin festival. Over the years he directed episodes of many familiar British television series, including Bergerac, Inspector Morse, Agatha Christie's Poirot, Dalziel and Pascoe, Death in Paradise, and Grantchester.
