by Eduardo de Hinojosa
Born in Alhama de Granada in 1852 and later active in Madrid, Eduardo de Hinojosa y Naveros was a Spanish jurist and historian remembered as one of the key figures in the development of modern legal history in Spain.
He studied law and the humanities, taught, and built a reputation for careful work with historical sources. Reference works describe his scholarship as foundational for later historians of Spanish law, and his Historia general del derecho español was used for many years as a university text.
Hinojosa also held prominent cultural and academic roles, including membership in the Real Academia Española. He died in Madrid in 1919, leaving behind a body of work that helped shape how medieval and early Spanish law would be studied for generations.
