About the author

Born in Mechelen in 1788, Edmond Charles Guillaume Ghislain de la Coste was a Belgian statesman and writer. French and Dutch reference sources identify him as a prominent political figure who served in public office during the 19th century, including roles in government and provincial administration.

Alongside that career, he also wrote historical work. He is associated with Anselme Adorne, sire de Corthuy, pèlerin de Terre-Sainte, a book that helped preserve the story of a 15th-century Flemish traveler and nobleman for later readers.

He died in Brussels in 1870. Though not widely known now as a literary figure alone, his name survives through the overlap of scholarship, public service, and an evident interest in history.
