About the author

Born in Denbighshire in 1880, Edward Tegla Davies became a Welsh Wesleyan Methodist minister and went on to build a wide readership as a Welsh-language author. He was known simply as E. Tegla Davies, and his life in north Wales helped shape the settings and tone of much of his writing.

His work ranged across novels, short stories, essays, and books for children. Readers have often remembered the playful imagination and unusual humor in his children's writing, while works such as Gŵr Pen y Bryn helped secure his place in twentieth-century Welsh literature.

Davies died in 1967. He remains an important figure for listeners interested in Welsh writing that combines everyday life, faith, wit, and a strong sense of place.
