by E. Palmer (Edmund Palmer) Conner
Born in Norfolk, Virginia, on January 1, 1900, Edmund Palmer Conner moved west with his family as a child and grew up in Southern California. Archival records from California institutions note that he lived in San Diego and later Pasadena, giving him deep roots in the landscapes and communities that shaped his writing.
Conner is known as the author of The Romance of the Ranchos, a historical work centered on the ranchos of early California. The book’s continued availability through Project Gutenberg suggests a lasting interest in his accessible, story-driven approach to regional history.
Beyond writing, archival descriptions identify him as a businessman and the founder of Western Mutual Escrow Corporation in 1949. He also left behind a collection of color slides of Los Angeles, which points to a broader interest in documenting Southern California’s places and heritage. He died in 1975.
