About the author

Born in 1992, E. Hughes is a poet whose work has appeared in publications including Guernica, Poet Lore, Indiana Review, Gulf Coast, and The Rumpus. They have also been recognized as a Cave Canem fellow and were a finalist for the 2021 Elinor Benedict Poetry Prize.

Hughes has been longlisted for the 2021 Granum Fellowship Prize and was a semifinalist for the 2022 and 2023 92Y Discovery Contest. Their growing reputation comes from poems that have found a place in respected literary spaces while continuing to reach new readers.

They earned an MFA in poetry and an MA in English literature from Northwestern University’s Litowitz Creative Writing Program, and they have pursued doctoral study in philosophy at Emory University. That blend of literary craft and philosophical study helps explain the reflective, searching quality often associated with their work.
