About the author

E. Hughes is an American poet and philosopher. Their poems have appeared in publications including Guernica, Poet Lore, Indiana Review, Gulf Coast, and The Rumpus, and they are a Cave Canem fellow.

Their debut poetry collection, Ankle-Deep in Pacific Water, was published by Haymarket Books in 2024. The book helped bring wider attention to Hughes's work, which often blends personal experience with meditative, image-rich writing.

Hughes earned an MFA in poetry and an MA in English literature from the University of Virginia. Alongside publishing poems, they have been recognized in several literary competitions, including as a finalist for the 2021 Elinor Benedict Poetry Prize.
