About the author

Born in Oosternijkerk on April 10, 1879, Enneus Rijpma was a Dutch teacher, school leader, and historian. After training at the Rijkskweekschool in Groningen, he worked as a teacher in Zwolle and Amsterdam, later taught in Kampen, and eventually became director of a Rijks Hogere Burgerschool in Amsterdam.

Alongside his work in education, he studied history at the University of Amsterdam and earned a doctorate in 1924 with De ontwikkelingsgang van Kampen tot omstreeks 1600. He also wrote several history textbooks and literary study guides, including Gids bij de studie der Nederlandsche letterkunde, showing a clear interest in making Dutch cultural history accessible to students.

Rijpma died in Amsterdam on August 12, 1946. He is remembered both for his classroom work and for his contribution to the historical study of Kampen and Dutch literature.
