Edith Elise Cadogan Cowper (21 July 1859 – 18 November 1933), published as E. E. Cowper, was a British author remembered as a prolific and popular writer of adventure stories for girls. Her work appeared during a period when stories for young female readers were expanding beyond strictly domestic themes, and her books helped bring travel, danger, and action into that space.
She married the yachtsman and writer Frank Cowper, and the couple had eight children. Accounts of her life note that the marriage later broke down, but she continued to be identified through the substantial body of fiction she produced.
Today, she is most often encountered through reprints and public-domain editions, which have helped keep titles such as Camilla's Castle and other girls' adventures in circulation for new readers.
