About the author

Born in 1877 and remembered in Churches of Christ history as an energetic evangelist and missionary promoter, he became one of the movement's most influential mission-minded figures during the first decades of the twentieth century.

Early in his career, he traveled across the United States as a preacher. Later, after contact with missionary William J. Bishop and a trip around the world, he developed a deep commitment to foreign missions. That work shaped both his public speaking and his writing.

He is also known as the author of A Trip Abroad (1905), a travel narrative about journeys through Palestine, Egypt, and other places tied to biblical and historical interest. Other surviving works connected with him focus on missionary themes, showing how strongly travel, faith, and global Christian work were joined in his life. He died in 1944.
