A German writer, cabaret performer, and chansonnière who wrote under the name Dolorosa, she is remembered for bold early-20th-century poetry and prose that explored erotic and unconventional themes.

by Dolorosa
Born Maria Eichhorn-Fischer on November 11, 1879, in Giersdorf in Silesia (now Podgórzyn, Poland), Dolorosa built a varied literary and performance career. German reference sources describe her not only as a writer, but also as a diseuse, cabaret artist, and chansonnière.
She became known under the pseudonym Dolorosa, a Latin word meaning "sorrowful one." Reference entries and library records note that she was especially associated with erotic poems and prose, including work with sadomasochistic themes, which made her a striking and unusual voice in German-language literature of her time.
She died in London on October 3, 1930. Today, her work survives through library catalogs, reference databases, and digitized editions, offering a glimpse of a provocative author who moved between literature, performance, and the edgy artistic culture of the early 1900s.
