About the author

Born Dina Cornelia Hooijer in Schellinkhout on December 6, 1871, she later became known as Dina Mollinger-Hooyer after her marriage to Frédéric Mollinger in Arnhem in 1896. She was the daughter of a minister, wrote under the pseudonym Ellen, and died in Arnhem on May 14, 1940.

Her bibliography includes Een vriendschap and Twee Vrouwen from 1911, followed by Een liefde-vertelling (1916), Ariadne en Dionysos (1917), Uit de brieven en dagboekbladen van Klaartje Hartig (1919), Een herfststorm (1921), De Pop van Elisabeth Gehrke (1922), and Van eenen koningszoon (1923). The DBNL record also shows that she published poems and prose in Dutch literary periodicals including De Hollandsche Lelie, Onze Eeuw, Elseviers Geïllustreerd Maandschrift, and De Nieuwe Gids.

A note from 1931, quoted on the Dutch Wikipedia page about her, suggests that Een vriendschap had become a familiar small book in many Dutch homes. Although biographical details are limited, the surviving record shows a steady literary presence across magazines and books in the decades before the Second World War.
