About the author

Dina Mollinger-Hooyer was a Dutch writer born in Schellinkhout on December 6, 1871, and she died in Arnhem on May 14, 1940. She was born Dina Cornelia Hooijer, the daughter of a minister, and later married Frédéric Mollinger in Arnhem in 1896. She published under the pseudonym Ellen.

A brief contemporary note on her reputation suggests that she was a familiar name to Dutch readers, especially through Een vriendschap, which was described in 1931 as a book found in many Dutch bookcases. Another of her known works is De Pop van Elisabeth Gehrke, which has been preserved and can still be read through Project Gutenberg.

Some catalog and research sources also connect her with poetry and archival material in the Netherlands, but the clearest confirmed picture is of a Dutch early-20th-century author whose fiction focused on human feeling and relationships.
