About the author

Born in Colorado Springs on July 25, 1894, George Dillwyn Parrish was an American writer, illustrator, and painter. He came from a notably creative family: he was the younger brother of author Anne Parrish, and the two collaborated on children's books.

Parrish also worked as an artist in his own right, and his career stretched across both literature and visual art. That mix of talents helps explain why his work still draws interest from readers who enjoy authors with a strong visual imagination.

His life was closely connected to other literary figures of his time, including M. F. K. Fisher, whom he encouraged in her writing. Parrish died in California on August 6, 1941, at the age of 47.
