David H. (David Henry) Keller

1880–1966

A physician and psychiatrist by profession, he became one of the early pulp writers to bring science fiction, fantasy, and horror together in a distinctly psychological way. His stories often blend imaginative premises with dark humor and an interest in how people think and behave.

About the author

Born in Philadelphia in 1880, David H. Keller trained as a doctor and psychiatrist before building a second career as a prolific pulp writer. He published widely in the early science fiction magazines and is especially associated with the lively, idea-driven fiction of the late 1920s and 1930s.

Keller wrote across science fiction, fantasy, and horror, and his medical background gave many of his stories an unusual psychological angle. He is often remembered for work that appeared in magazines such as Amazing Stories and Weird Tales, as well as for his long-running presence in early genre publishing.

He died in 1966, but his fiction remains part of the foundation of American pulp speculative writing. For listeners who enjoy early imaginative fiction, his work offers a glimpse of a period when modern science fiction was still inventing itself.
