A witty French writer and illustrator, this 19th-century creator built a lively reputation with books about horses, hunting, and Parisian life. Writing and drawing under the pen name “Crafty,” he brought humor and sharp observation to scenes of sport and society.

Born Victor Eugène Géruzez in Paris on May 24, 1840, he worked under the pen name Crafty. He became known as a French comic writer and illustrator, especially for books centered on horses, riding, and hunting on horseback.
His work mixed caricature, social observation, and a clear affection for equestrian culture. Titles associated with him include Paris à cheval and À travers Paris, both of which show his interest in the rhythms, manners, and amusements of 19th-century French life.
Crafty died on May 26, 1906, in Saint-Martin-de-Nigelles. I wasn’t able to confirm a suitable portrait image from the sources I checked, so no profile image is included here.
