by Cosme Blasco
Born in Zaragoza in 1838, Cosme Blasco y Val was a Spanish writer, professor, historian, and journalist. Sources on his life agree that he was closely tied to the cultural life of his city, and the Spanish Wikipedia entry describes him as a historian and writer who later became a history professor at the University of Zaragoza.
He also wrote under the pen name Crispín Botana. Among the works most often mentioned are La gente de mi tierra and a Historia de Teruel, which reflect his interest in regional life and Aragonese history.
Zaragoza city sources remember him as a publicist, academic, and chronicler of the city, and note that he served the University of Zaragoza in senior roles, including periods as acting rector. He died in Zaragoza in December 1900 and was buried in the cemetery of Torrero.
