About the author

Born in San Remo on April 28, 1800, Christophe-Michel Roguet was the son of General François Roguet. Sources describe him as a French general and politician, and he was educated at the military Prytanée of Saint-Cyr before entering the École polytechnique and the engineers.

His career carried him through several major episodes of the century. The Sénat archive says he served in Spain in 1823, later advanced through the army in Algeria, and eventually became aide-de-camp to Napoleon III. He was named a senator under the Second Empire, and he died in Paris on July 24, 1877.

Roguet was also an author. Bibliographic records from the Bibliothèque nationale de France identify him as the writer of military works, including L'Officier d'infanterie en campagne, which helps explain why his name still appears in library catalogs as well as in military and political histories.
