About the author

Born Clarice Nissley on December 11, 1895, in Comanche, Iowa, she later became known as Clarice Detzer. The Library of Michigan lists her as an author with deep ties to Michigan, and Project Gutenberg preserves her work for modern readers, including Dot... dot... dash... dot—"Fire!".

She was married to writer and journalist Karl Detzer, and records from the Library of Michigan note that her last known address was in Leland, Michigan. A local history article in Leelanau News also places the Detzers in the life of the community, noting that they purchased the Leelanau Enterprise in 1948.

Clarice Detzer died in December 1982. While easily available biographical details are limited, the surviving records show a writer whose life connected Iowa roots, Michigan community life, and published work that has remained accessible long after her lifetime.
