About the author

Born Clare Armstrong Bridgman on December 2, 1861, she published under the name Clare Jerrold and is remembered for popular historical works centered on Queen Victoria. Her books include The Early Court of Queen Victoria and The Married Life of Queen Victoria, both of which helped introduce general readers to the people and atmosphere of the Victorian court.

She married the writer and journalist Walter Jerrold in 1895, and references to her in biographical sources often appear through that connection. Even so, her own writing career stands out in its own right, especially in royal and social history written for a broad audience.

A clear portrait of Clare Jerrold was not readily confirmed from the sources reviewed, so no profile image is included here.
