About the author

Born Clara Schulz in Königsberg on February 14, 1861, she later became known as Clara Sudermann. Reliable biographical records identify her as a German writer, and note that she died in Berlin on October 17, 1924.

She was first married to the waterworks director Lauckner and was later married, from 1891, to the dramatist Hermann Sudermann. Her surviving published works include titles such as An geöffneter Tür and Am Glück vorbei, which show that she maintained her own literary career rather than appearing only as part of her husband's biography.

Although she is less widely read today than some of her contemporaries, Clara Sudermann remains part of the broader German literary landscape of her era. Archival and bibliographic sources preserve her record as a novelist and playwright, offering a glimpse of a writer whose work belonged to a vibrant period in German letters.
